Because good taste is no coincidence: grill grates from RÖSLE

Crispy meat that is beautifully tender and juicy on the inside, crispy grilled vegetables, aromatic smoked fish: if you want the food to be served exactly the way you like it best, the grill rack must meet your requirements.

Basically, grill grates differ in terms of material, shape, texture and structure of the bars. However, the questions of whether the grill grate is needed for the main grilling zone or the prime zone, whether you prefer to use it for direct or indirect grilling and how much variety the grill grate should offer you are also important when deciding what to buy. Below we explain what you should look out for when choosing your RÖSLE barbecue grill.

Chrome, stainless steel or cast iron: How do RÖSLE grill grates differ?

In terms of shape, there are round grill grates for kettle barbecues or smokers and square grill grates for gas barbecues. RÖSLE barbecue grates for kettle barbecues are made of stainless steel. The only exception here is the No.1 BELLY model, which we have equipped with a chrome-plated steel grill grate as an entry-level model. The grill grates for our gas barbecues and BBQ stations are made of enameled cast iron.

These differences in the choice of material are deliberate, as a stainless steel grill and a cast iron grill have different material properties.

Stainless steel gets less dirty due to its high material density and can be cleaned easily or cleaned in the dishwasher. As stainless steel does not absorb as much heat as cast iron, it is also ideal for barbecuers with little experience for use with charcoal barbecues, as it makes indirect grilling in particular easier.

A cast iron grill, on the other hand, loves extreme temperatures and is an excellent heat accumulator. It is therefore just as ideal for use in the main grilling zone of BBQ grilling stations as it is as a support on the prime zone, as the burners are easy to regulate and the prime zone is operated with infrared. If perfect branding and an intense taste of the typical roasted aromas are most important to you, the cast iron grill grate could be your first choice.

Ultimately, however, the material of the barbecue grill is only of secondary importance for the taste. If you use high-quality grilled food, delicious marinades and exciting spice mixes or aromatic smoking chips from RÖSLE, the BBQ event will be just as much a feast for the senses with a stainless steel grill grate as with a cast iron grill grate. And if you can't make up your mind, you can of course purchase several grids or additional cast iron grill plates.

Extra large and versatile: grill grates for charcoal and gas barbecue BBQ stations

Barbecuing is most fun when you invite guests over. That's why the BELLY kettle barbecue entry-level model from RÖSLE is already equipped with a barbecue grid with a generous diameter of 50 cm. Our smoker comes with two grill grates of this size, and in the SPORT and AIR ranges you can choose between grill grates with a diameter of 50 or 60 cm.

The grill grates on our SPORT and AIR charcoal barbecues are made entirely of durable and easy-care stainless steel. They can be folded up at the side so that you can easily refill charcoal while grilling. You can also purchase an innovative reversible charcoal grate, which you can use for the direct grilling method by placing the grate with the indentation facing downwards, or for the indirect method by turning the grate through 180° so that the charcoal can be placed in the annular gap.

One of the highlights among the RÖSLE grill grates for kettle barbecues is the VARIO+ NO.1 F60 stainless steel grill grate, which can be used on RÖSLE kettle barbecue models with a diameter of 60 cm. The grill grate is equipped with solid stainless steel bars with a thickness of 5 mm and can be folded to the side and in the middle. As a basic component of the VARIO+ barbecue grill system, it allows you to use your RÖSLE charcoal barbecue in a variety of ways. (As the VARIO+ grill system is also available for our BBQ stations, we have summarized all the advantages for you in the last section).

As the name suggests, it is also high-quality stainless steel that characterizes our VIDERO stainless steel grill grate, which also has a generous bar diameter of 8 mm. And where the bars are generously dimensioned, the gaps between them are smaller, so that even smaller food does not slip through.

We have also come up with a special surprise for the new VIDERO G4-S NERO: a grill grate made of enameled cast iron for the prime zone.

Temperatures of up to 800 °C and the cast iron grate ensure a unique branding. To make things perfect, you can simply raise the cast iron grill one level higher if required and turn the prime zone into an additional zone for indirect grilling.

Great extras for varied grilling: VARIO+ barbecue grid system and accessories

Some kettle barbecues and gas barbecue BBQ stations from the VIDERO range can be transformed into versatile all-rounders with the VARIO+ barbecue grid system. The NO.1 AIR NERO charcoal barbecue and the latest VIDERO G2-S/G3-S/G4-S and G6-S gas barbecues are already equipped with it as standard.

The VARIO+ grill grate system consists of a round grill grate made of stainless steel (kettle grill) or a rectangular grill grate made of cast iron (gas grill), into which five different inserts with a diameter of 30 cm can be inserted. This means you can also use your grill to bake pizza and bread, place a wok or Dutch oven on it or use the grill grate insert included in the scope of delivery alternately with the VARIO RS grill insert with honeycomb structure.

Do you prefer a simpler design because the grill rack is not used for baking pizzas or braising anyway? Then simply opt for a VIDERO from the G series with enameled cast iron grill grates and an extra warming rack. The VIDERO G3/G4 and the predecessors of the current G6 models (until 2020) can also be retrofitted with a VARIO+ grill grate system. If a prime zone with solid enameled cast iron grill grates is at the top of your wish list, the MAGNUM PRO G3/ G4-S gas barbecue BBQ station is an excellent choice.

We have the portable BBQ grill VIDERO G2-P in our range for small barbecue enjoyment when traveling, in a motorhome or on the balcony. The portable VIDERO has a stainless steel grill. The main grilling surface is also divided into two zones so that the grill grate can be optionally supplemented with a grill plate. A warming rack is also available, which is why even our smallest of the big ones enables maximum utilization of the main grilling surface.

In addition to the matching inserts for the VARIO+ barbecue system, you can of course also obtain a wide range of other high-quality barbecue accessories from us online. As practical sets for the basic equipment or as individual accessories that make all work on the barbecue easier. Accessories that are especially recommended for the grill grate include our practical cleaning brushes, for example.

If you want to intensify the contact between the food being cooked, such as burgers, just take a look at our BBQ weights. Especially the hungriest among your guests will be happy to use them, as the weights made of enameled cast iron enable even faster cooking.
