Everything in the right measure: measuring and weighing with kitchen gadgets from RÖSLE

We can often make our favorite soup without measuring and weighing all the ingredients. But as soon as we want to bake a cake or try out a new recipe, we recommend using kitchen scales and measuring jugs. And if you're still half-asleep when you make your first coffee in the morning, you'll usually be happy if you don't have to weigh the required amount of coffee powder first, but can simply pour it into the filter using a coffee measure.

Measurements in the sense of good measurements should always be taken in the kitchen when exact temperatures are crucial for the result. A digital thermometer, whose display reliably shows whether everything is in the right temperature range, is very useful here. Read below to find out what you should look out for when choosing kitchen accessories for measuring and weighing.

Weighing and measuring: important selection criteria for buying digital kitchen scales

Today, kitchen scales are mainly manufactured and used as digital scales. A high-quality digital kitchen scale usually consists of a flat weighing surface, an easy-to-read LCD display, an attractively designed housing and a compartment for inserting the batteries.

It is operated via a touchscreen on which various units of measurement such as grams (g), ounces (oz), fluid ounces (floh), milliliters (ml) or pounds (lb) can be selected. It is also important that the touchscreen can be used to activate the tare function. This allows you to gradually add individual ingredients such as flour, sugar and baking powder to be mixed and always reset the display to zero beforehand. To enable you to measure or mix larger quantities or heavier ingredients, the kitchen scales should have a capacity of several kilos.

Some kitchen scales are already equipped with a bowl. In this case, make sure that the bowl is made of a food-safe material and is easy to clean. It is more advantageous if you purchase bowls in different sizes to match the kitchen scales. Despite the tare function, it is often necessary to continue working with the kitchen scales and a new bowl while the yeast dough is in a warm place or the shortcrust pastry is resting in the fridge, for example.

High-quality digital kitchen scales have the advantage that they provide much more precise measurement results than analog scales. You should therefore also check the manufacturer's specifications for measuring precision before buying.

As digital scales are sensitive measuring instruments, your kitchen scales should also be made of a robust and easy-care material and be stored in a well-protected place. A switch-off function that starts automatically when the kitchen scales have not been used for several minutes contributes to economical battery consumption.

If you just want to make a quick cup of coffee, simply use a coffee measure instead of a digital kitchen scale. This is a measuring spoon designed to measure out the ideal amount of ground coffee per 100 ml of water. In order for the ground coffee to develop its aroma perfectly, 5 to 7 grams of coffee powder are usually brewed per 100 ml.

Analog or digital: measuring jug and roasting thermometer for the best results

In addition to digital kitchen scales, measuring jugs are indispensable kitchen aids for cooking and baking. Measuring jugs are mostly used for measuring liquids where precise measurements down to the last gram or millimeter are not required. The graduation (scaling) is therefore coarser and therefore particularly clear. If the measuring jug is made of stainless steel, this has the advantage that the graduations are not simply applied and therefore do not fade even after many years of use, as is often the case with plastic measuring jugs.

For good handling, it is important that the measuring jug is not too large and that the handle fits comfortably in the hand. A capacity of one liter is sufficient for most purposes. Smaller measuring jugs are often used in private households for mixing sauces or measuring milk, as they take up less space in the kitchen cupboard.

A digital roasting thermometer provides you with a completely different measurement than the measuring cup or the liter measure, which can be used to determine whether steaks and schnitzels, roasts or other dishes are at the perfect temperature. Digital roasting thermometers consist of at least one needle-shaped sensor that is inserted into the food. The temperature display then shows whether the desired temperature has been reached.

Digital thermometers should be able to display the temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. Roasting thermometers, which can also be used to set the core temperature of different types of meat and the desired cooking level, offer even more convenience.

Measuring and weighing: precision from RÖSLE

Precise measuring and weighing is an important prerequisite for achieving the best results when cooking and baking. That's why we at RÖSLE have digital and analog measuring devices to make cooking and baking easier and even more enjoyable.

Because it's even more fun to work with a digital kitchen scale whose weighing surface made of bright stainless steel in combination with a glossy black body made of ABS is an eye-catcher in the kitchen. Which is why the digital kitchen scales from RÖSLE won the Reddot Design Award 2017.

In addition to the look, it is of course the functions that have to be right. With kitchen scales from RÖSLE, the slide mechanism alone brings more momentum to kitchen work. As with the slide cell phone, the control panel is well protected and can be easily pulled out with thumb and forefingers when needed.

Five different weighing units, automatic switch-off, LCD display, tare function and a load capacity of up to 5 kg with a measuring precision of +/- 0.3 % are also the ideal features that guarantee the quality of a kitchen scale from RÖSLE.
Our roasting thermometers are also digital measuring instruments of the highest precision.

As a gourmet thermometer with sensor and digital display, with which you can see at a glance within a measuring range of -40 °C to +200 °C whether food and drinks are at the right temperature. Or as a digital roasting thermometer, which can be used to measure and set the desired core temperature/cooking level for five different types of meat. In three languages and within a measuring range of -20 °C to +250 °C (or the corresponding Fahrenheit values).

Our stainless steel measuring jugs, which have a scale on the inside and outside, are ideal for analog measuring. A pouring rim and a wire handle that sits comfortably in the hand ensure that the measured liquids can be poured without dripping. Finally, our coffee measure has the perfect shape for measuring coffee powder - regardless of whether you prefer to brew a gentle five grams or a hefty seven grams per 100 ml
